Artist and sculptor websites
Websites for sculptors and artists present exciting opportunities for a site designer. For me, it is a deeply rewarding experience to collaborate in the creative process and help showcase an artist's work.

[Please note: I am unable to take on new projects at the present time. Please feel free to use this page to make an inquiry but be aware that I'm just too busy now to add to my current workload. Thanks very much. --andrew myers--]

Unfortunately, painting or sculpture can lose significant impact on the Web unless it is carefully presented and displayed in a way that focuses on the artist's unique talent. The site must reflect the creative expression, messages and accessibility that is inherent in the pieces on display and still allow for as wide an interpretation of the work as the artist intended.

From a practical perspective, pages and graphics on an art site need to be kept small and "lightweight" enough for visitors on slow dialup connections, yet robust and detailed enough to satisfy the growing number of high-speed DSL and broadband visitors.

It's a delicate balance. The designer must be sensitive to an artist's unique form of expression and convey the essence of that expression on the site in order to make it a gratifying, uplifting and, yes, fun experience for all visitors. Especially those who may want to purchase one's creations.

I've designed and managed many other websites. See my online résumé for details. Or take a peek at my portfolio page that lists links to sites I've designed and has popups of some recent Flash projects.

Every artist requires a site designed specifically for his or her work. The site designer begins by becoming intimate with the artist's creative process. This may require some time, effort and patience. But eventually the "right" design will emerge. The Geoffrey Myers site demonstrates one way to achieve these conflicting goals.
